Plagiarism

What did the student do wrong? What could he/she have done to include the source correctly?
The student copied, word for word, exactly what was written in the article. He could have paraphrased a part or at least cited where he had gotten that information  from.
Write a sentence using the original source correctly; use a quotation or paraphrase. Also, make sure to cite correctly.
There is a peaceful essence flowing from the structures. Perhaps the cool dark colors and the fiery windows spark memories of our own warm childhood years filled with imagination. The center point of the town is the tall steeple of the church, reigning largely over the smaller buildings. To the left of the painting there is a massive dark structure that develops an even greater sense of size and isolation. (A Brief Understanding of the Starry Night Paintings, unknown author).
What are at least 3 ways to avoid plagiarizing?
1. Use your own words, not something you found elsewhere or memorized.

2. Paraphrase what others have said in the story you are reading.

3. Give credit where credit is due (Citing your sources).

George had a great article called “Evicted From Park, Occupy Protesters Take to the Sidewalks”. It really focuses on the topic and it looks like he took a long time on it. This is a really good thing. I feel like if I try to focus a little more on the topic, I will do as great as George.
The next person I read from was Kiana. I really liked her Essay. I think that she did a great job on it and there was a lot off effort shown. I think that my essays should have a little more on the topic, just like hers does. If I write a little more and elaborate on my topic I will have a better essay.
