Plagiarism

What did the student do wrong? What could he/she have done to include the source correctly?
The student copied, word for word, exactly what was written in the article. He could have paraphrased a part or at least cited where he had gotten that information  from.
Write a sentence using the original source correctly; use a quotation or paraphrase. Also, make sure to cite correctly.
There is a peaceful essence flowing from the structures. Perhaps the cool dark colors and the fiery windows spark memories of our own warm childhood years filled with imagination. The center point of the town is the tall steeple of the church, reigning largely over the smaller buildings. To the left of the painting there is a massive dark structure that develops an even greater sense of size and isolation. (A Brief Understanding of the Starry Night Paintings, unknown author).
What are at least 3 ways to avoid plagiarizing?
1. Use your own words, not something you found elsewhere or memorized.

2. Paraphrase what others have said in the story you are reading.

3. Give credit where credit is due (Citing your sources).

George had a great article called “Evicted From Park, Occupy Protesters Take to the Sidewalks”. It really focuses on the topic and it looks like he took a long time on it. This is a really good thing. I feel like if I try to focus a little more on the topic, I will do as great as George.
The next person I read from was Kiana. I really liked her Essay. I think that she did a great job on it and there was a lot off effort shown. I think that my essays should have a little more on the topic, just like hers does. If I write a little more and elaborate on my topic I will have a better essay.

Sonnet #1

A Sonnet for You

I can look at you for so much longer
And I never get sick of this feeling
When I see you I feel like I'm stronger
Like my body can jump to the ceiling

When we first met I could not believe it
When I first saw you in the park that day
When we both went and ate banana splits
And we hung out every day to play

I really can't explain how I feel now
Because you make my eyes burst into tears
It is a good thing that you make me vow
To love you for more than all of these years

This sonnet is to show my love to you
Now I have to practice not to fall through

What is Imagination?

Imagination is letting humans fly
like birds
trying to touch the sky
Imagination is what keeps you up
at night
just hoping that the bed bugs won't bite
Imagination is having superpowers and climbing up a tree
Imagination is whatever you want it to be

"Mona Lisa"

My artist was a very famous artist by the name of Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci was born in 1452, in Italy. He wasn't just an artist; he also was an architect, musician, sculptor, scientist, inventor, and a mathematician. His most famous drawing was called the "Mona Lisa" (above). Other than his painting business, Leonardo wanted to be an inventor. He wanted to create a flying machine. He also mostly painted portraits. A weird thing about Leonardo Da Vinci is that he wrote notes backwards because he didn't want people to read about his discoveries or steal his ideas.
As I said before, Da Vinci's most famous painting was the "Mona Lisa". I really like this photo, mainly because of her smile. People say that they believed that the famous half-smile was a recovered memory of Leonardo's mother. The background in the painting looks almost like icy mountains with dirt roads. This is the only painting that is here in the United States. The other paintings are in Europe.
I think that this painting is supposed to be about his mother also. Even though the name of the painting is “Mona Lisa”, named after the woman in the portrait, Lisa Gherardini, I still think that it has to do with Da Vinci’s mother. I also think that the background of the portrait is supposed to be something in the past because of the dirt and nothing else. That is my interpretations on the "Mona Lisa".

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

In the book The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, one of the two main characters, Lucy and Mr. Tumnus, help each other out in different ways. This book shows a lot of that. While reading the book, it also showed how close together they are. It almost seemed like they could have been brothers and sisters. Here are some examples showing my thoughts.
My first piece of evidence is when Lucy meets Mr. Tumnus; He takes her to his house and tries to be friends with her. Although, he wasn’t really trying to become friends with her, he was trying to make her like him so he could reveal her to the White Witch. Later on, she realized that he is a very nice person and becomes best friends with him. When Mr. Tumnus was about to make Lucy fall asleep and reveal her, he realized that she wasn’t a bad person at all, and let her free without any trouble. Later on he asked for her forgiveness. “Will you ever forgive me, Lucy?” begged Mr. Tumnus, “Well of course I do, Mr. Tumnus” Lucy said.
Another way that they help each other out is when the White Witch found out that Mr. Tumnus met a Daughter of Adam and Eve and didn’t reveal her, she called him over to her castle and he turned him into stone. When Lucy heard about that, she asked her brothers and sister if they could help her save Mr. Tumnus. When all four siblings went to the White Witch’s castle in Narnia, they went to save Mr. Tumnus and ended up succeeding. Mr. Tumnus thanked all four children for saving him.
My final piece of evidence is when everyone in the town of Narnia, including the children, were fighting the White Witch and her army, Lucy and Mr. Tumnus were basically back to back fighting the enemies. When they were fighting the enemies, they were close together, and not separating at all. When the battle was over and Narnia won, the children had to go back to the house. Lucy and Mr. Tumnus were so sad, but there was nothing they could do about it. That showed how close together they were, even though he was going to reveal her in the beginning. It also shows how much they care about each other.
Those are my examples showing how Lucy and Mr. Tumnus helped each other out in different ways and how it also showed the relationship between each other. Thank you for reading my essay, and I hope you enjoyed it.
